In May 2017, not-for profit organisation 350.org orchestrated a 10 day Global Divestment Mobilisation campaign with the aim of empowering individuals to help take a stance against climate change, putting pressure on local governments and financial and corporate institutions.
I did my small part, working in collaboration with 350.Africa to design collateral for our Divestment campaign here in Cape Town.
It’s a rewarding feeling, being able to use the skills that I have to contribute to something much larger than myself, a fight which needs every person in the planet on its side.
Information, awareness and interest is everything – we need to fully understand how our everyday choices affect the earth in order to be able to tweak or change them. An understanding of what is going on in the world is seminal – be informed, and then your choices, good or bad, will at least be made knowingly.
The Cape Town campaign resulted in our Mayor publicly stating her commitment to divest from fossils fuels, which was a huge win for the the city and everyone who joined the fight to voice their concerns. Read the full summary here.
